Boot Walkers and Ankle Bracing in Windsor, NS
A poorly fitted boot walker shifts weight unevenly, aggravates your injury, and slows healing. A properly fitted one immobilizes the fracture site while letting you stay mobile, which means you return to daily life sooner with less pain.
Trevor draws on over twenty years of experience as an Orthopaedic Bracing Specialist to match each patient with the correct device for their specific injury. Whether you’re managing a metatarsal fracture, an Achilles Tendon rupture, chronic Plantar Fasciitis, foot drop requiring an AFO, or a recurring ankle sprain, the fitting process at Performance Orthopaedic Bracing follows the same principle: the brace must work with your anatomy, not against it.
Direct billing is now available; we coordinate directly with your insurance provider to confirm your coverage, so you can focus on your recovery instead of administrative details. Contact us today to get more information about our services. We also offer custom knee and forearm bracing too.

Conditions We Fit Boot Walkers and Ankle Braces For

Fracture Boot Walkers
Stress fractures, metatarsal breaks, and stable ankle fractures all require controlled immobilization. A fracture boot walker offloads the injured bone while allowing limited weight-bearing, which means you avoid the muscle atrophy that comes with a traditional cast. Each boot is adjusted for your foot shape, swelling stage, and the location of the fracture so the rocker sole aligns correctly and doesn’t create secondary pain in your knee or hip.
Achilles Tendon Rupture
After a partial or complete Achilles rupture, the tendon needs to heal in a slightly plantarflexed position. The wrong angle or too much dorsiflexion too early risks re-rupture. Wedge-adjustable boot walkers let us set the precise heel height your surgeon or physiotherapist prescribes, then gradually reduce it as the tendon strengthens. This controlled progression supports tissue repair without the guesswork.
Foot Drop AFO's (Ankle-Foot Orthoses)
Footdropping, the inability to lift the front of your foot, creates a tripping hazard and an exhausting compensatory gait. An AFO holds the ankle at a functional angle during the swing phase of walking, so you can clear the ground safely. We fit both off-the-shelf and custom AFOs depending on the severity and underlying cause, whether that’s a peroneal nerve injury, stroke, or neurological condition.
Plantar Fasciitis Night Splints and Supports
That stabbing heel pain on your first steps each morning is the hallmark of plantar fasciitis. Night splints maintain a gentle stretch on the plantar fascia while you sleep, which means the tissue doesn’t contract and re-tear with every morning step. Combined with supportive daytime bracing, many patients report significant relief within weeks.
Ankle Bracing for Sprains and Instability
Repeated ankle sprains stretch the lateral ligaments until the joint feels permanently loose. A properly selected ankle brace — lace-up, stirrup, or hinged — restores mechanical stability without restricting the range of motion you need. The fear of your ankle giving way on uneven ground stops here: a brace matched to your instability grade gives you the confidence to walk, work, and return to activity.
How Your Boot Walker or Ankle Brace Fitting Works
Assessment
We evaluate your injury, review any imaging or referral notes, and measure your foot and lower leg. This determines the exact device type and size.
Selection and Fitting
Based on the assessment, the appropriate boot walker, AFO, or ankle brace is selected and adjusted to your anatomy. Strap tension, heel wedge angles, and rocker alignment are all set during this visit.
Gait Check
You walk in the device while we observe your gait pattern. Adjustments are made on the spot to correct any compensatory movement that could cause secondary pain.
Insurance and Follow-Up
We liaise with your insurance provider to verify coverage and arrange direct billing whenever possible. Follow-up appointments are scheduled to reassess fit and ensure optimal support as swelling changes and healing progresses.
